Environmental
Inwood is in the forefront of promoting
environmentally friendly, sustainably grown timber products.
We developed the use of Sweet Chestnut, sourced locally from coppiced grown woodlands in Southern
England, cladding and structural beams. Harvested
on a 25-30 year cycle, once cut the coppice re-grows to produce a
new crop from the same rootstock; making it the most sustainable
and environmental friendly forest system.
Sweet Chestnut is a naturally durable hardwood and does not require treating with chemical preservatives. It has a service life span that exceeds the re-growth
of the coppice thereby making it carbon positive.
We also use British and European Oak, English Ash, English Larch, English
Western Red Cedar and English Douglas Fir. All these timbers are
carefully sourced from sustainably managed woodlands. We are registered
under the Forest Stewardship Council and have full FSC and PEFC
certification.
